After months of reported sightings in the area, it has now been confirmed that we have what appears to be a giant living right beneath our hill! We don't know much about him and we're too afraid to ask. He simply appeared one misty morning, his enormous head half emerging from the hillside, ominously peering at the freeway. Legend has it that giants sleep underground for centuries, bursting forth suddenly to wreak havoc and destruction. It's said that they are Mother Nature’s way of resetting the balance when she feels threatened by mankind's careless ways.

Throughout the ages, all accounts of giants agree that they are magical, though violent creatures, capable of destroying entire civilisations with ease. Apparently, they have a deep, almost plant-like connection to the Earth. Experts seem to think our giant might be a scout sent up to the surface to consider how humans are treating the Earth. They say that - dependent on what he encounters- he might summon an army of giants to devour us all, or simply  disappear quietly one night, not to be seen again for hundreds of years.

We're hoping for the latter, so if you see him, please don't go too near or aggravate him in any way...

Renowned artist Louis van den Heever sketched the concept, sculpted a clay prototype, and meticulously constructed the monumental figure on-site, employing a blend of cement, stone, sand bags and wire framing.

'The Giant,' has become an integral part of the reserve, sparking widespread fascination throughout the Midlands. Composed of 5 tons of concrete and steel anchored by 5 chains, each weighing 10 tons and dug 2 meters into the mountain, this magnificent artwork stands as a testament to perseverance and creativity. It is a permanent fixture in our beautiful Midlands!
